Newport, Rhode Island Wedding
When most people think of a Newport, Rhode Island wedding, they usually think of tall hedges, opulent landscaping, and mansions. Rachel and Mike thought outside of the box when it came to their wedding, therefore decided to have it at Forty 1° North, a luxurious waterfront hotel and marina. That's because they wanted to have their boat, Joint Venture, as the backdrop, and the results were incredible!
This wedding was an extra special one for me since I've known Rachel since she was 2! I went to elementary school with her brother David (more of him later), and her family assimilated my family into America when we immigrated from Russia back in 1992. I'm so grateful for all they have done for us!

Rachel started her day getting ready on the top floor of the hotel overlooking the marina. Marlo, her sister-in-law and owner of Makeup by Marlo, got to work on everyone's makeup, while the Epic Beauty Boston team styled everyone's hair to get everyone looking their best.
My 2nd shooter Kristin (Kristin Chalmers Photography) hung out with Mike and worked her magic. He got ready in the room right below Rachel, also overlooking the impressive Joint Venture. You should check out the boat's Instagram to see the fishing adventures they've been on.
We staged a first look with Rachel and her father, Scott. It was one of the most touching first looks I've ever witnessed. Her father couldn't be more proud of her!
It was time for Rachel and Mike's first look on a dock adjacent. It felt very intimate even if they did have a crowd cheering them on.
Then it was time for the ceremony! Her brother, David, was the Chief Floral Officer, made a grand entrance with his flower-blower (patent pending). The whole ceremony, lead by Rachel's Uncle, Gary Gershaw, was beautiful, start to finish.
Shortly after sunset we got away from the crowd for a brief portrait shoot next to Joint Venture. You can feel the love they have for each other in each photo!
The first dance featured the incredible talents of Joe Sirianni (check out his wedding here) singing the song made famous by Nina Simone, "Feelin Good." It was my first time hearing him sing, and I had to peel my jaw off the floor. The parent first dances and speeches that followed were all phenomenal, as well. Once the Boston Renditions got going, the party never stopped! Forty 1° North did a wonderful job at taking care of everyone, as you can tell from the photos.
Congratulations Rachel & Michael on having a truly unique Newport wedding that none of us will ever forget!
